Contracts Set to Boost Clean Energy Production in the UK
Cadeler has been awarded significant contracts by ScottishPower Renewables for the transportation and installation of wind turbine generators (WTG) and foundations at the 960MW East Anglia TWO offshore wind farm in the southern North Sea. The contracts, valued between €360 million and €382 million, are part of the ongoing development of the East Anglia TWO project, which aims to deliver green electricity to nearly one million homes.
The East Anglia TWO project is a key component of the East Anglia Hub, which also includes the East Anglia ONE North and East Anglia THREE wind farms. When completed, it will generate enough clean energy to power approximately 950,000 households annually. The project is set to contribute significantly to the UK’s renewable energy goals and is part of the country’s wider push to meet its 2030 clean energy objectives.
Project Details and Timeline
Wind Farm to Feature 64 Turbines and Begin Operations in 2027
The East Anglia TWO offshore wind farm will be located approximately 32.6 km from the Suffolk coast, near Southwold, and 37.5 km from Lowestoft. With an estimated investment of £4 billion, the project will feature 64 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 15MW. Cadeler’s involvement in the project will be crucial in ensuring timely transportation and installation, with the work scheduled to begin in 2027. The offshore wind farm is expected to operate for up to 25 years, providing long-term, sustainable energy to the UK grid.
Cadeler’s New Fleet to Enhance Project Efficiency
Six Newbuild Vessels Strengthen Cadeler’s Offshore Capacity
Cadeler will utilize one of its new A-class vessels and an existing O-class vessel from its fleet to carry out the offshore installation work. The project comes after a reservation agreement between Cadeler and ScottishPower Renewables was first disclosed in May 2024. As part of its strategy to expand capacity and improve operational flexibility, Cadeler is also in the process of adding six newbuild vessels to its fleet. This expansion is expected to offer enhanced efficiency, particularly for more complex offshore wind projects.
Cadeler CEO Mikkel Gleerup emphasized that the company’s growing fleet would allow for greater flexibility in meeting clients’ needs, reinforcing its role as a leading full-service transportation and installation provider in the offshore wind sector. The East Anglia TWO project marks another significant milestone in Cadeler’s efforts to drive the transition to renewable offshore wind energy.
