Centaurus Metals, an ASX-listed company, has secured a vital installation licence for its Jaguar Nickel Sulphide Project. This project is located in Pará State, northern Brazil. The licence, granted by Pará’s state environmental agency Semas, allows Centaurus to begin construction of the project.
Construction to Begin with New Licence
The installation licence authorizes Centaurus to construct a nickel concentration plant. It also includes critical infrastructure such as pits, dams, and waste management facilities. The licence remains valid until March 2029 and provides permissions for vegetation clearance and water resource management.
Additionally, Centaurus is now allowed to handle wildlife during construction, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
Next Steps for Centaurus and Jaguar Project
Centaurus is focused on securing the funding needed to move forward. Once the company secures financing, it can make a Final Investment Decision (FID). Darren Gordon, the Managing Director of Centaurus, expressed confidence: “This licence sets us on the path to making the Final Investment Decision later this year once we secure a financing package.”
The Jaguar project offers significant economic, social, and community benefits. Centaurus aims to work closely with stakeholders to bring the project to fruition.
Powerline Segment and Landowner Negotiations
In February 2024, Centaurus received a combined preliminary and installation licence for the powerline segment. This licence allows the company to proceed with construction after completing engineering work and securing funding. Centaurus has also acquired mining easements from Brazil’s National Mining Agency (ANM) for the powerline and road construction.
The mining lease application, which ANM previously approved, will now be submitted to finalize the lease’s issuance. Centaurus expects to finalize the mining lease within the next few months.
