Elemental Econrg India Private Ltd., formed through the merger of Elemental EMEA Global Trade Center DMCC and Econrg Systech Private Ltd., has launched a new catalyst recycling plant in Sawardari, Maharashtra. This new facility will focus on processing used automotive catalytic converters in India, a market that is rapidly expanding as the world’s largest new car market. The move is part of Elemental Group’s strategic push to expand its presence in India and optimize its supply chain for catalytic converters, which are essential for reducing vehicle emissions.
Strategic Location and Local Expertise
Elemental Group, a leading player in the recycling of used automotive catalytic converters, has established Elemental Econrg India with the aim to capitalize on India’s growing automotive sector. This catalyst recycling plant in Maharashtra utilizes specialized equipment and machinery imported from Poland, marking the beginning of operations on February 3, 2025. The local facility is set to process 130 tons of material in its first year, with plans for gradual volume increases in subsequent years.
With a large team of experienced professionals and a network of local contractors, Elemental Econrg India leverages the strengths of both its parent companies. Elemental EMEA, based in the Middle East, brings its vast experience and expertise in the catalyst market, while Econrg Systech offers strong recognition and trust in the Indian market, enabling the company to work closely with both large and small contractors across the country.
A Booming Market with Growing Potential
India’s automotive industry ranks fourth globally in terms of production and value, and it is rapidly catching up. In 2023, India became the world’s third-largest automotive market in terms of sales, surpassing Japan. The country registered more than 354 million motor vehicles in 2022, with annual production reaching 5.5 million cars. This growth presents a significant opportunity for Elemental Econrg India, as the demand for catalyst recycling services in India continues to rise, making the new catalyst recycling plant essential.
The opening of this new plant aligns with the Elemental Group’s broader strategy to strengthen its market position in the region. With the appointment of Aakash Sheh as the director of the new facility, Elemental aims to leverage local knowledge to build strong relationships with customers and enhance its competitiveness in the growing Indian market.
In addition, the plant’s focus on processing spent auto catalysts will not only optimize raw material sourcing but also improve the company’s supply chain. Elemental plans to expand its reach and market share in the coming years, with a clear vision to serve the local needs more effectively, which the new catalyst recycling plant will support.
Elemental Group’s operations span across several regions, including Southeast Asia, the Middle East, South Africa, and Australia. The group specializes in recycling automotive catalysts, focusing on precious metals such as platinum, palladium, and rhodium found in ceramic and metal catalysts. The company’s strategic expansion into India will further solidify its position as a global leader in catalyst recycling, highlighted by the new plant.
