Strategic Partnership Enhances North American Supply Chain for AMtrinsic Powders

Elmet Technologies and Taniobis have formed a strategic partnership to bolster the North American supply of niobium C-103 and FS-85 AMtrinsic powders. This collaboration aims to create a more resilient and agile supply chain for critical refractory metal powders. Both companies will leverage their expertise in Powder Metallurgy and Additive Manufacturing to support aerospace and defence industries. Moreover, the partnership will explore expanding distribution of other niobium– and tantalum-based powders to meet growing industrial demands.

The agreement builds on the companies’ shared heritage through HC Starck and their complementary capabilities. Elmet’s recent acquisition of HC Starck Solutions Americas and Taniobis’ long-standing experience in niobium powder manufacturing form a strong foundation. As a result, the alliance enhances supply chain reliability and operational agility across North America, ensuring critical material availability for high-performance applications.

Focus on Niobium C-103 and FS-85 AMtrinsic Powders Drives Aerospace Innovation

Elmet and Taniobis focus on supplying high-quality niobium alloys tailored for extreme aerospace environments. The AMtrinsic C-103 alloy offers exceptional high-temperature strength, ductility, and creep resistance, making it ideal for space propulsion components. Meanwhile, FS-85 provides excellent tensile strength, fatigue resistance, and stability at elevated temperatures, suited for structural aerospace parts.

In addition, niobium’s unique properties such as light weight, superconductivity, and corrosion resistance make it essential for aerospace, medical, nuclear, and energy sectors. Tantalum-based powders complement these applications with their own strengths in ductility and corrosion resistance. Therefore, this partnership advances North America’s access to specialized metal powders required for next-generation aerospace technologies.

SuperMetalPrice Commentary:

Elmet and Taniobis’ collaboration marks a significant step toward securing North America’s supply of critical refractory metal powders. Their joint focus on AMtrinsic niobium alloys underlines the growing importance of additive manufacturing in aerospace and defence. This partnership not only improves material availability but also aligns with broader industry trends emphasizing supply chain resilience and technological innovation. As demand for high-performance powders grows, such collaborations will prove vital in supporting sustainable growth and competitiveness in strategic sectors.
