1. Introduce
– Chromium-iron alloy containing about 65 to 75% Cr and 6 to 9% C
* Fe-Cr
– Alloy of chromium and iron containing 50~70% chromium
– As a raw material for stainless steel, chromium is an important element that plays a role in improving corrosion resistance, and Fe-Cr is generally used to control the content of chromium in stainless steel manufacturing
* Classification of Fe-Cr according to carbon content
(1) Fe-Cr(HC) : C : 6~9%
(2) Fe-Cr(MC) : C : 1~4%
(3) Fe-Cr(LC) : C : 0.25~0.1%
* Carbon content of Fe-Cr : affects hardness and brittleness
→ Higher carbon content improves hardness
→ Lower carbon content reduces the risk of carbide precipitation
* Chromium content in Fe-Cr : affects oxidation resistance and heat resistance
→ Higher chromium content has better oxidation resistance and heat resistance
* Application of Fe-Cr
– High-quality Fe-Cr is applied instead of metallic Cr in alloy production, which is more economical
(1) Stainless steel production
– Adding Fe-Cr to stainless steel improves corrosion resistance, hardness and toughness
(2) Superalloys
– Adding Fe-Cr to superalloys to improve fatigue and creep resistance
(3) Refractories
– Adding Fe-Cr to refractories to improve corrosion and wear resistance and maintain temperature uniformity in high-temperature environments
* Difference between Fe-Cr and Cr
| Chemical Composistion | Properties | Application & Product | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fe-Cr | 60~70%Cr, 6~8%C | Excellent heat resistance, tensile strength, and hardness | Manufacturing of steel alloys (stainless steel, tool steel, other specialty alloys) |
| Cr | 90%Cr (Min) | Excellent corrosion resistance | Decorative (decorative trim, wheels, bumpers) |
2. Property
– Good corrosion resistance, hardness, toughness, fatigue and creep resistance, abrasion resistance
[Fe-Cr(HC) Chemical Composition (%)]
| Cr | Fe | C | Si | P | S |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 65.0~75.0 | Bal. | 6.0~9.0 | Max. 1.5 | Max. 0.03 | Max. 0.05 |
[Fe-Cr(HC) Physical Properties]
| Density (g/㎤) | Melting Range (℃) |
|---|---|
| 6.7~7.1 | 1350~1650 |
3. Application
– Stainless steel, acid-resistant steel, low-carbon chromium steel, tools, cutting blades, springs
