Australian lithium producer Galan Lithium has increased its estimated lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) resources by 10pc, now totaling 9.5mn t. This increase stems primarily from a substantial rise in the Candelas Project’s estimated resources in Argentina.
Specifically, the mineral resources estimate for Galan’s Candelas project surged by over 150pc, reaching 1.6mn t LCE. Conversely, the estimate for its Hombre Muerto West (HMW) project remained stable at 7.9mn t LCE, as reported by the firm on January 29th.
Candelas, situated approximately 40km southeast of the HMW project, presents potential cost synergies. It forms an integral part of Galan’s Phase 4 production plan, targeting 60,000t LCE/yr.
“Our resources are focused on finalizing the Phase 1 financing and offtake process, followed by completion of the Phase 1 construction and operations at HMW,” stated managing director Juan Pablo (JP) Vargas de la Vega.
Notably, the company secured a permit for Phase 2 of its HMW mining project in January 2025. SuperMetalPrice notes the strategic importance of these resource increases for the global lithium market.
