1. Introduce
– Ni – Cr – Mo alloy with good resistance to stress corrosion cracking and high temperature oxidizing atmospheres
– Alloy with good resistance to hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and chloride environments
– Reduced C, Si content and addition of stabilizing element Ti for improved intergranular corrosion resistance
– Low C, Si content: stable at 650 ~ 1040℃, improving intergranular corrosion resistance
– UNS N06455
* High C content → Increased amount of carbide precipitation in the grain boundary → Reduced corrosion resistance
* High C, Si content → two-phase formation during solidification → tensile deformation / stress action → high temperature cracking, poor weldability
* UNS
- Abbreviation of Unified Numbering Systems for Metals and Alloys
- Unified unique numbering system for metals and alloys
- A representative number that is compatible with metals and alloys defined in many material-related codes such as ASTM, AISI, ASME, AWS, etc.
* N : Nickel and nickel alloys
* UNS N06455 : 06XXX : Chromium (Hastelloy, Inconel, some with additional element)
* Hastelloy
– Corrosion – resistant alloys with Ni as the main component
– Good machinability, weldability
* Hastelloy C
(1) Main composition
– Ni – Cr – Mo
(2) Characteristics
– Oxidation resistance alloy : Excellent oxidation resistance due to the large amount of Cr added
– Excellent corrosion resistance in oxidizing atmospheres such as nitric acid and chlorine due to the addition of a large amount of Cr
2. Property
– Excellent resistance to crevice corrosion and pitting corrosion in oxidizing and non-oxidizing environments
| Element | Impact |
|---|---|
| Ni | Provides corrosion resistance |
| Cr | Provides oxidation resistance |
| Mo | Provides sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, and hot oxidation corrosion resistance, hot hardness, weldability, and machinability |
