1. Introduce
– Alloy with high temperature strength, excellent resistance to oxidizing environments up to 1149°C, resistance to nitriding environments, and good thermal stability
– Lower thermal expansion characteristics than most high-temperature alloys and better resistance to grain coarsening with prolonged exposure to high temperatures
– UNS N06230
* UNS
- Abbreviation for Unified Numbering Systems for Metals and Alloys
- Unified unique numbering system for metals and alloys
- A representative number that is compatible with metals and alloys defined in many material-related codes such as ASTM, AISI, ASME, AWS, etc.
* N : Nickel and nickel alloys
* UNS N06230 : 06XXX : Chromium(Hastelloy, Inconel and some with additional element)
* Haynes
– Alloys designed for high temperature strength, thermal fatigue resistance, oxidation resistance, and corrosion resistance
– Alloys composed mainly of Ni, Cr, Co with elements such as W, Mo, Fe, etc.
2. Property
– Contains high amounts of Cr and W elements
– Lower coefficient of thermal expansion than most high temperature alloys, slow grain growth at high temperature
→ High temperature strength, oxidation resistance, good thermal stability for a long time
| Element | Impact |
|---|---|
| Ni | Provides corrosion resistance |
| Cr | Provides corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, creep resistance → Cr+C : M₂₃C₆ carbide formation, carbide precipitation at grain boundaries, creep |
| Mo, W | Highly strengthening elements, high temperature stability, high temperature creep properties → M₆C carbide formation, provides high temperature stability |
| Co | Provides strength, creep characteristics |
