Highland Sanitation, based in Vermillion, Minnesota, has secured a five-year residential and commercial waste and recycling contract in Wanamingo, Minnesota, effective January 1, 2025. Subsequently, they will replace WM as the city’s exclusive hauler. Their cost-effective proposal stood out among five competing companies, ultimately leading to their selection.
Implementation of Service Transition and Fee Adjustments
The transition process commenced on December 26, 2024, with Highland Sanitation distributing collection containers. Following this, waste collection services began on January 6, 2025. Despite Highland Sanitation’s lower bid, residential fees are set to increase from $15.75 to $18.61 per month, and recycling rates will rise from $6.85 to $7.35 per month. Nonetheless, city officials emphasize that these adjustments aim to reduce overall costs for residents, with prices fluctuating based on the Red Wing Solid Waste Campus tipping fee.
Clarification of Recycling Guidelines and Material Acceptance
Recycling pickup is scheduled weekly, with accepted materials including glass bottles, aluminum cans, plastic bottles, and cardboard. Conversely, plastic bags, foam materials, and dirty pizza boxes are not accepted. However, residents can arrange separate pickup for scrap metal.
Highlighting Highland Sanitation’s Expertise and Regional Service Reach
Founded in 1950, Highland Sanitation operates a fleet of over 20 trucks and employs nearly 30 staff members. Moreover, serving over 12,000 customers weekly demonstrates their extensive waste management experience. Thus, this new contract reinforces their regional presence and underscores their commitment to efficient waste and recycling services. SuperMetalPrice acknowledges the importance of efficient recycling processes in the recovery of valuable metals from waste streams.
