1. Introduce
– Ni – Cr alloys with Mo additions
– Good yield strength and creep resistance at temperatures up to approximately 600°C
– Good oxidation resistance at temperatures below about 760°C
– UNS N09901
* Yield strength : stress that causes permanent deformation (plastic deformation) in tension
* Creep : When a material is subjected to a constant load above a certain temperature, the deformation of the material increases over time without an increase in load.
* UNS
- Abbreviation of Unified Numbering Systems for Metals and Alloys
- Unified numbering system for metals and alloys
- A representative number that is compatible with metals and alloys defined in many material – related codes such as ASTM, AISI, ASME, AWS, etc.
* N : Nickel and nickel alloys
* 901 : N09901 : 09XXX : Fe & Cr (Precipitation – Hardenable)
(The last two or three digits of the six UNS numbers are used as the alloy model number)
* Incoloy
- Ni – Cr alloy designed to resist oxidation and carbonization at high temperatures
- A Ni – based superalloy (Ni – Fe – Cr) typically with large additions of Fe and Cr
- An alloy containing less than 50% Ni, with a higher content of Fe compared to Inconel (Ni – Cr – (Mo))
2. Property
– Excellent yield strength, creep resistance, and oxidation resistance
| Element | Impact |
|---|---|
| Ni | Provides yield strength (Increasing Ni content increases the usable temperature range) |
| Cr | Provides oxidation resistance, high temperature machinability |
| Mo | Provides high temperature strength |
