Switzerland’s manufacturing landscape received a major boost with the official unveiling of the IRPD IMPACT 4530 metal additive manufacturing machine. This event took place at the Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne (SIPBB). Developed by IRPD, a member of the United Grinding Group, the machine promises to revolutionize additive manufacturing with its cutting-edge technology.
A Step Forward for Swiss Manufacturing
The event, attended by key figures from IRPD, SIPBB, and the United Grinding Group, celebrated the completion of a six-year-long development project. SIPBB’s Managing Director, Andreas Burn, emphasized that the IMPACT 4530 will play a crucial role in securing Switzerland’s position as a leader in advanced manufacturing. With a focus on quality, digitalization, and automation, the machine is designed to enhance the country’s manufacturing capabilities. Additionally, it ensures profitability in the long term.
Burn remarked, “Today marks a proud milestone in the history of Swiss additive manufacturing. The IMPACT 4530 machine strengthens our ability to maintain productivity and competitiveness on the global stage.”
Key Features and Innovation
The IMPACT 4530 features a build volume of 450 x 300 x 400 mm and offers the flexibility of two or four 1,000 W synchronized fiber lasers. This design allows for high-speed and precision manufacturing. It is ideal for industries requiring complex, high-quality metal parts. The machine also integrates C.O.R.E., a unique hardware and software architecture from the United Grinding Group. This ensures smooth communication with third-party systems and other United Grinding products.
With its high degree of autonomy, the IMPACT 4530 can operate as an independent machine. Furthermore, it can function as part of a fully automated network. This flexibility and scalability open doors for various industries to streamline production processes and enhance efficiency.
Filling a Market Gap
Christoph Plüss, CTO of United Grinding Group, noted that market analysis revealed a clear need for a Swiss-made additive manufacturing machine. The IMPACT 4530 fills this gap. It offers a robust solution that aligns with Switzerland’s ongoing efforts to support innovation and advanced manufacturing practices.
The launch of the IMPACT 4530 marks an important milestone for IRPD, SIPBB, and the entire Swiss manufacturing sector. This positions the country for continued success in the global additive manufacturing market.
