Kametstal Doubles Billet Output Through Continuous Casting Machine No. 1
Kametstal has doubled its production of high-quality steel billets in 2025, driven by major upgrades to continuous casting machine No. 1. The Ukrainian steelmaker now produces up to 15,000 tons of billets per month—twice the output achieved last year. In July alone, the plant hit a new record of 16,160 tons, far surpassing the 2024 monthly high of 8,260 tons.
This growth stems from systematic modernization and improved casting efficiency. Notably, the plant’s “Autostart” feature during stop casting now operates with over 90% success, compared to 80% earlier this year. The reduction in manual intervention has enhanced consistency and product quality. Over the first eight months of 2025, Kametstal produced 58,430 tons of billets, already exceeding 2024’s full-year total.
Meanwhile, the modernization of MBLZ No. 1 brought critical hardware and software upgrades. Technicians replaced frequency converters and cable systems and optimized casting software, resulting in better pulling stove efficiency and higher casting stability.
Technological Upgrades Drive Kametstal’s Steel Innovation
Kametstal’s stop casting process has also improved in throughput, now achieving nearly six melts per cycle—up from 5.3 in 2024. These advances demonstrate the company’s ongoing commitment to optimizing steel production through automation and digital control.
In addition to billet output, Kametstal has expanded its product line by launching 100 mm grinding balls with enhanced hardness. These are essential for efficient operations at mining and processing plants. As industrial demand grows, Kametstal is positioning itself as a reliable supplier of premium steel inputs across key sectors.
