Maraging 350(Ni-Co-Mo)

1. Introduce

– Low carbon precipitation strengthened Ni alloy, mainly composed of Fe, Ni, Co, and Mo

– Has the best mechanical properties of all maraging steels

– Maintains strength up to 450℃, good notch impact at -50℃ and below

– 18Ni, Maraging C350, Vascomax C350

– UNS K93160

* Maraging

  1. Precipitation hardening treatment with extremely low carbon concentration martensite followed by aging treatment to improve mechanical properties
  2. Martensite + Aging = Maraging steel
  3. Large amount of Ni added to facilitate martensite transformation
  4. Steel with Co and Mo added to Ni alloy to strengthen precipitation of intermetallic compounds
  5. In maraging steel, C has a great influence on strength, and even a very small amount of C content can greatly improve the strength of martensite
  6. Generally, there are Maraging 200, 250, 300, 350, and the higher the grade, the more Co and Ti are added

* 350 : Means minimum tensile strength (ksi) of Maraging 350 (350ksi*6.9 = 2415MPa)

* 18Ni : It means Ni contains 18%

* UNS

  1. Abbreviation of Unified Numbering Systems for Metals and Alloys
  2. Unified numbering system for metals and alloys
  3. A representative number that is compatible with metals and alloys defined in many material-related codes such as ASTM, AISI, ASME, AWS, etc.

* K : Miscellaneous steels and ferrous alloys

2. Property

– Excellent strength, tensile and yield strength, weldability, and crack resistance

ElementImpact
NiProvides excellent strength and corrosion resistance
CoPrecipitation strengthening element, provides strength and creep properties
MoPrecipitation strengthening element, provides strength, high temperature creep properties
