Kinusi Copper Mine Development Strategy Announced by Marula Mining
Marula Mining, listed on the London Stock Exchange, has announced a detailed development plan for its Kinusi copper mine in Tanzania’s Dodoma Region. The plan includes a large-scale open-pit mining operation supported by a two-phase processing strategy aimed at expanding the country’s copper output.
Two-Phase Production: High-Grade Concentrate and Copper Cathode
Phase 1 targets an annual output of 24,000 tons of high-grade copper concentrate, with final test work underway in South Africa and expected to complete by Q4 2024. Phase 2 will produce 10,200 tons of copper cathode annually. Mining operations are scheduled to begin in late 2024, following test completion.
Strategic Timeline and Impact on Global Copper Supply Chain
Marula Mining expects Phase 1 production to begin in Q1 2025, with the first export shipment targeted by the end of that quarter. This project strengthens Tanzania’s position in the global copper sector and supports the growing demand for copper in renewable technologies and electrification.
