Nucor to Build $200 Million Tower & Structures Facility in Utah

Nucor, $200 Million Tower & Structures Facility in Utah

New Facility Will Strengthen Utility Infrastructure in the Western U.S.

Nucor Corporation has announced plans to build a $200 million Tower & Structures production facility in Brigham City, Utah. This will be the company’s third utility structures production site, joining facilities under construction in Decatur, Alabama, and Crawfordsville, Indiana. The new plant will be located within Nucor’s existing Brigham City campus and is designed to support the growing demand for utility infrastructure in the Western U.S.

Nucor’s Towers & Structures business unit, established in 2022 following the acquisition of Summit Utility Structures LLC, will operate the new facility. The company aims to meet increasing regional demand for infrastructure driven by distributed energy projects, data centers, and population growth. As noted by Nucor’s President and CEO, Leon Topalian, the new plant will help meet the region’s utility needs while utilizing American-made, low embodied carbon steel, aligning with Nucor’s sustainable steelmaking practices.

Meeting Growing Demand for Utility Infrastructure

The Western U.S. is experiencing a significant expansion of electric transmission infrastructure. Local utilities are forecasting substantial load growth and are ramping up capital investments in response to factors such as increased energy supply, grid-hardening initiatives, and the rise of data centers, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, and electrification projects. Nucor’s new Utah facility will benefit from high levels of automation and strategic freight advantages. The plant will receive raw materials, including plate and sheet products, via rail from Nucor’s steel mills to ensure a steady supply for production.

The facility will play a vital role in meeting the region’s energy infrastructure needs while supporting Nucor’s commitment to producing sustainable steel solutions for a more electrified future.
