Plenitude Completes Construction of Largest Battery Storage Facility in Texas

Plenitude, Battery Storage Facility in Texas

Plenitude, through its subsidiary Eni New Energy US, has officially completed the construction of its largest-ever battery storage system, the Guajillo plant. Located in Webb County, Southwest Texas, about 20 kilometers from Laredo, the facility has a capacity of 200MW and is equipped with lithium-ion LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries, designed to efficiently store electricity generated by renewable plants. This energy can then be released to meet high market demand when needed.

Strategic Location and Synergy with Solar Farms

Guajillo is strategically located next to one of Plenitude’s largest solar farms, the Corazon Solar Farm, on an expansive 800-hectare site. This proximity allows for operational synergies, as the battery storage system will store excess energy from the solar farm, improving grid stability and supporting the integration of renewable energy sources into the local power grid.

Scheduled to become commercially operational by mid-2025, the plant will significantly contribute to the stability and efficiency of the regional power system, especially as the area experiences rapid growth in renewable energy generation.

Positioning Plenitude at the Forefront of Energy Storage

The completion of Guajillo positions Plenitude as a key player in the rapidly expanding field of energy storage technology. This development is an integral part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its renewable energy footprint in the U.S. market, where it has already reached 1.5 GW of installed capacity. The project aligns with Plenitude’s broader goals, including the expansion of its global renewable energy portfolio, which is expected to reach 8 GW of installed capacity by 2027.
