Pybar Expands Its Role in Tasmania with Rosebery Mine Contract
Pybar, an underground mining specialist and a Thiess subsidiary, has secured a three-year contract for the Rosebery Mine in Tasmania. The agreement covers rehabilitation and development services for the mine’s underground operations. It marks a key expansion in Pybar’s work at this important polymetallic base metal site.
The Rosebery Mine, operational for nearly 90 years, is located 300 kilometers northwest of Hobart. It produces zinc, copper, and lead concentrates, along with gold and silver. Pybar’s new contract builds on their previous appointment in April 2023 for shotcrete and cemented rockfill (CRF) services at the site.
Pybar’s Role in Tasmania’s Critical Mineral Supply Chain
Under the new contract, Pybar will expand its scope to include underground mining restoration and development services. This will enhance the Rosebery Mine’s efficiency and help maintain Tasmania’s position as a key supplier of critical minerals. The high-grade ore produced at the site is vital for global industries like manufacturing, technology, energy, and construction.
James Glover, Pybar’s General Manager, highlighted the company’s dedication to delivering quality results. “We look forward to furthering our work with MMG at the Rosebery mine, contributing to Australia’s global role in critical minerals production,” Glover said. Pybar’s deep expertise in underground mining and focus on safety and sustainability strengthen its position in Australia’s critical minerals sector.
Strengthening Pybar’s Underground Mining Expertise
Thiess Group Executive Chair and CEO, Michael Wright, expressed excitement over the contract, which reflects Thiess’ expanding services in critical minerals. Wright noted that the contract further solidifies Pybar’s long-standing partnership with MMG. It also acknowledges Pybar’s expertise in underground mining.
The Rosebery Mine’s consistent production of base metals aligns with Australia’s strategy to meet global demand for critical minerals. As demand for materials like zinc, copper, and lead grows, Pybar’s specialized mining expertise is becoming increasingly crucial.
