Shandong Aipurui Steel Plate Co. Ltd, a Chinese company, plans to build a $120 million steel plant in Uzbekistan’s Ferghana region. The project will unfold in three stages and is expected to create 500 new jobs in the local economy. Additionally, the new steel processing plant will be located in the Tarakkiyot industrial zone within the Toshlok district.
Three-Stage Project with Major Investment
This significant investment will focus on producing high-quality processed metal products for both domestic consumption and export markets. The first phase of construction is expected to be completed by October this year. Local authorities have praised the fast pace of the project’s development, further confirming its positive impact on the region’s economy.
Infrastructure Development in the Ferghana Region
In addition to the steel plant, Khairullo Bozorov, the regional governor, emphasized the importance of improving local infrastructure. These enhancements will not only support the plant’s operations but also benefit the surrounding community. Thus, this investment supports Uzbekistan’s broader goals to strengthen its industrial capabilities and generate more job opportunities in the region.
Growth of the Regional Steel Industry
Furthermore, the regional steel industry has experienced substantial growth. Global companies are increasingly investing in the area, attracted by the region’s potential. For instance, last fall, a partnership between Kazakhstan’s Qarmet and China’s Xinxing Ductile Iron Pipes Co. led to a $161 million deal. This partnership aims to build a plant for high-strength nodular cast iron pipes in Kazakhstan. Similarly, Shandong Aipurui Steel Plate Co. is investing in a steel plant in Uzbekistan’s Ferghana region, further highlighting the ongoing expansion of the mining and metallurgical industries across Central Asia.
