Copper Output Set for Significant Increase
Sierra Metals, a key player in the Canadian mining sector, has projected a notable increase in its copper production for 2025. The company expects its copper output from its Yauricocha mine in Peru and the Bolivar mine in Mexico to hit between 44.6 million and 48.5 million pounds, compared to the 37.5 million to 43.3 million pounds anticipated for 2024. The expected growth is attributed to enhanced throughput rates and better ore grades at the Yauricocha mine.
At the Yauricocha mine, Sierra Metals reached full throughput capacity of 3,600 metric tonnes per day by the fourth quarter of 2024, reflecting a 30% improvement in operational efficiency. In 2025, the company plans further investments to increase capacity, with a strategic focus on mining a larger ore body below Level 1120 and developing a high-grade zone in the upper regions of the mine.
Bolivar Mine’s Stable Copper Production with Efficiency Enhancements
Meanwhile, copper production at the Bolivar mine is expected to remain steady in 2025. Although ore grades are projected to be lower, the company plans to counterbalance this with improved throughput rates. Efforts to optimize operational efficiency at Bolivar aim to sustain copper output despite challenges with ore quality.
Zinc and Lead Production on an Upward Trajectory
Sierra Metals is also forecasting substantial growth in zinc and lead production for 2025, in addition to copper:
- Zinc Production: Expected to rise to between 53.6 million and 58.4 million pounds, a significant increase from 38.6 million to 44.5 million pounds in 2024.
- Lead Production: Anticipated to grow to 13.7 million to 15 million pounds, compared to 10.2 million to 11.8 million pounds in 2024.
These projections reflect Sierra Metals’ continued focus on improving operational efficiencies, increasing throughput rates, and strategically developing its resource base to meet growing demand for copper, zinc, and lead in global markets.
