Mining Right Strengthens Uru Metals’ Position in South Africa
South Africa’s Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources officially granted Uru Metals the mining right for its Zeb Nickel Project. This milestone strengthens the company’s position in the region.
Project company Lesego Platinum Uitloop (LPU) now holds the 30-year right, valid through 2055. Furthermore, the right covers more than 4,703 hectares in the Northern Limb of the Bushveld Complex in Limpopo province. Importantly, this region hosts rich deposits of nickel, platinum, and palladium.
The mining right spans parts of the Bloemhof 4KS, Uitloop 3KS, Amatava 41KS, and Piet Potgietersrust Town & Townlands 44KS farms in the Mogalakwena municipality. Uru Metals is completing registration formalities at the Mineral and Petroleum Titles Registration Office in Pretoria. Once finalized, the company will confirm registration and outline the next development steps for the Zeb Nickel Project.
Zeb Nickel Project Targets Exploration Expansion
In the next phase, Uru Metals will conduct ground gravity and electromagnetic (EM) surveys over two priority targets. The studies aim to refine the geometry of known conductors and pinpoint drill-ready targets. The company will use the results to guide modelling work, drill parameters, and the exploration schedule. Together, these efforts create a clearer roadmap for project advancement.
CEO John Zorbas said the new mining right “materially de-risks Zeb Nickel by securing the right for 30 years and positioning the project to engage quality partners.” He added that the company will focus on completing the surveys and designing an efficient drill plan to target the most promising zones.
The Zeb Nickel Project obtained integrated environmental authorization in 2024, confirming compliance with South African regulations. With these approvals in place, Uru Metals is advancing its strategy to become a leading supplier of battery-grade nickel in the country’s growing critical minerals sector.
SuperMetalPrice Commentary:
The mining right approval for Uru Metals’ Zeb Nickel Project marks a pivotal step in South Africa’s critical minerals development. Nickel remains a key ingredient in lithium-ion batteries and stainless steel production, and global demand is expected to rise sharply as EV adoption accelerates. The Zeb Nickel Project’s location within the Bushveld Complex — one of the world’s most resource-rich geological formations — positions Uru Metals strategically within the global supply chain. Successful exploration and upcoming drill results will be critical indicators for investors tracking South African nickel projects and their potential role in diversifying the global battery materials market.
