Talisman Tirzzit Copper Project Acquisition Expands Moroccan Portfolio

The Talisman Tirzzit Copper Project acquisition marks a strategic expansion in southern Morocco. Talisman Metals signed an agreement to acquire the project from Aya Silver & Gold. Aya currently holds a 4.7% stake in Talisman.

Talisman will acquire the asset through its subsidiary, Horizons Mines. The company will pay $21,872 to Aya’s subsidiary under agreed terms. Additionally, Talisman will transfer a non-core licence in the Boumadine region to Aya.

The Tirzzit Copper Project covers two mining licences over 16.5km² east of Agadir. The licences expire in July and November 2028, subject to renewal under Moroccan law. As a result, Talisman secures tenure near its existing operations.

Strategic Fit With Tizert Copper-Silver Mine

The Talisman Tirzzit Copper Project acquisition aligns closely with the nearby Tizert Copper-Silver Mine. The Tirzzit site lies 85km north-east of Tizert. This proximity supports operational synergies and regional consolidation.

Geologists classify Tirzzit as a sediment-hosted stratiform copper-silver system. The deposit sits within the Neoproterozoic Adoudou Formation, known for multiple copper occurrences. Meanwhile, Tizert hosts an estimated 130 million tonnes of mineral resources and approaches commercial production.

Historical work strengthens the project’s geological case. The Moroccan government agency Bureau de Recherches et de Participations Minières conducted drilling and sampling between 1972 and 1976. These programmes outlined mineralisation across the licence area.

Development Plan and Corporate Strategy

Talisman plans to re-register the licences through its Moroccan subsidiary after completion. The company will analyse historical datasets to shape its development roadmap. CEO Tim McCutcheon highlighted the acquisition’s favourable terms and growth upside.

Furthermore, the Talisman Tirzzit Copper Project acquisition expands the company’s copper pipeline in North Africa. Copper demand continues to rise with global electrification and energy transition investments. Therefore, Morocco offers strategic exposure to emerging copper supply.

SuperMetalPrice Commentary:

The Talisman Tirzzit Copper Project acquisition strengthens Talisman’s regional consolidation strategy in Morocco. The modest upfront payment reduces financial risk while preserving exploration upside. If historical drilling confirms scalable resources, Talisman could fast-track development near Tizert. Investors should monitor resource updates and permitting progress through 2026.
