Tata Motors, Vehicle Dismantling Facility

State-of-the-Art Vehicle Scrapping Facility in Pune
Tata Motors, in collaboration with Tata International, has launched a new Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) in Pune, India, aimed at revolutionizing the country’s approach to end-of-life vehicle (ELV) recycling. This facility, named Re.Wi.Re (Recycle with Respect), is designed to dismantle up to 21,000 vehicles annually, both passenger and commercial. The plant employs environmentally responsible methods, ensuring the safe disposal of hazardous materials and the recycling of valuable components. Operated by Tata International Vehicle Applications (TIVA), a Tata Group subsidiary, the Pune facility is part of the company’s broader initiative to support the circular economy in India.

Re.Wi.Re: A Digital and Paperless Approach to Vehicle Recycling
The Re.Wi.Re facility is fully digitalized, operating in a paperless environment to streamline processes and enhance efficiency. This modern setup includes dedicated stations for the careful dismantling of various vehicle components such as tires, batteries, fuel, oils, and gases, in compliance with India’s vehicle scrappage policy. Tata Motors emphasizes that the meticulous documentation and processing of each vehicle guarantee the responsible and safe disposal of all materials, contributing to both environmental protection and resource recovery.

Expansion of Tata’s Vehicle Recycling Network Across India
The Pune facility adds to the growing network of Re.Wi.Re centers, with five other operational facilities located in Jaipur, Bhubaneshwar, Surat, Chandigarh, and Delhi. Tata Motors and Tata International aim to address the increasing demand for organized and efficient vehicle recycling across India. Rajeev Batra, CEO of TIVA, noted that the new facility represents a significant step towards creating a sustainable ecosystem for vehicle recycling, reducing waste, and promoting resource reuse.

Commitment to Sustainability and the Circular Economy
This facility is an integral part of Tata Motors’ strategy to contribute to India’s sustainability goals and create a circular economy within the automotive sector. Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors, highlighted the company’s commitment to leveraging advanced recycling processes that not only extract maximum value from ELVs but also minimize the environmental impact of vehicle disposal. This initiative aligns with Tata’s broader mission to lead the automotive industry in sustainable practices and innovation.
