Teck Closes Section of Trail Zinc Plant Following Fire Incident

Teck Resources has temporarily closed one of four sections of its electrolytic zinc plant at the Trail Operations complex in British Columbia due to a localized fire on September 24. Despite this shutdown, production continues in the remaining three sections, along with the production of lead, specialty metals, and by-products.

Teck’s zinc production at Trail Operations faced challenges in the second quarter, experiencing a 4.5% decline in refined zinc output to 64,900 tons due to unplanned maintenance and zinc quality issues. The company has maintained its refined zinc production guidance for the year, projecting total output between 275,000 and 290,000 tons.

As one of the largest zinc and lead smelting complexes globally, Teck’s commitment to stabilizing production amid these setbacks highlights the complexities of large-scale industrial operations. The company remains optimistic about meeting its annual targets, barring any further unforeseen disruptions.
