1. Introduce
– Highest Fe and O content among Ti CPs for superior strength and corrosion resistance
– Excellent strength over a temperature range of up to about 204°C
– Excellent oxidation resistance up to a temperature range of about 315℃
– UNS R50700
* CP Titanium
- CP Titanium : unalloyed, commercially pure titanium grade(CP : Commercially Pure)
- Grade types : Ti CP Gr.1, Gr.2, Gr.3, Gr.4
- Elemental content
→ CP titanium has different contents of O, Fe, and N, and O, Fe, and N are treated as impurities in titanium
(Increase or decrease of O, Fe, N: affects mechanical properties(yield strength, tensile strength, elongation))
→ Ti CP Gr.4 has the highest oxygen content
(O : increases brittleness, decreases elongation, toughness, and high temperature stability) - Grades are ordered based on corrosion and formability
- Higher grades increase strength and decrease formability
* Ti Gr.1 vs Ti Gr.2
– Ti Gr.1, Gr.2 : most impervious to impurities
– Ti Gr.1 : Highest ductility, low tensile stresses
– Ti Gr.2 : Excellent formability, yield and tensile strength, higher strength than Gr.1, suitable for surgical applications
* Ti CP vs Ti-6-4
– CP : α / β phase pure titanium
- Allotropic transformation based on 882℃, α phase exists below 882℃ and β phase exists above 882℃
- Mechanical properties of titanium change depending on the amount of α phase and β phase
– Ti-6-4 : α+β phase alloy titanium
- Strength, machinability, weldability, and ability to withstand moderately high temperatures
* UNS
- Abbreviation for Unified Numbering Systems for Metals and Alloys
- Unified unique numbering system for metals and alloys
- A representative number that is compatible with metals and alloys defined in many material-related codes such as ASTM, AISI, ASME, AWS, etc.
* R : Reactive and Refractory Metals and Alloys
* UNS R50700 : 5XXXX : Titanium
