January 27, 2025 – February 2, 2025 Alloy Price Analysis including Nickel Alloys
1. PWA Alloy : PWA 1426, PWA 1480, PWA 1484, PWA 1487
– PWA 1426 is up $84.71-$90.72/kg, PWA 1484 is up $99.39-$105.45/kg, and PWA 1487 is up $98.42-$104.48/kg. The inclusion of Nickel Alloys in these measurements could be a factor.
– PWA 1480, on the other hand, fell to $52.81-$52.53/kg. This drop might relate to shifts in Nickel Alloys demand.
– PWA alloy prices are up across the board, with PWA 1480 being the exception, and this is likely due to the difference in the presence or absence of Re.
– Compared to last week, Re is up about $214 at $1828.40-$2042.25/kg, with PWA 1426, PWA 1484, and PWA 1487 with Re up about $6 and PWA 1480 without Re down about $0.28. Many of these alloys, particularly Nickel Alloys, are significantly influenced by the market.
– As the aviation industry has become more active and military budgets have increased globally, demand for PWA alloys used to manufacture aircraft rocket engines, wind turbine blades, and more has increased, driving demand for Re.
– Supply issues due to costly Re extraction processes and difficulties in recovery and recycling of Re scrap are expected to drive PWA alloy prices on an upward trend, especially those that are considered Nickel Alloys.

2. Inconel 783
– The price of Inconel 783 was $15.49-14.46 per kg, down about $1 from the previous week, which is estimated to be due to a decrease in the price of Co, which accounts for about 32%.
– Co was at $24.25-21.49 per kg, down about $3.
– As a slump in demand in the electric vehicle market exceeded supply, Co’s price plunged to an all-time low.
– Co is mostly a by-product of Ni and Cu mining, and as Congo’s copper production increases, so does Co production.
– This has led to a significant drop in the price of Inconel 783, which has a high Co content, and this decline is expected to continue. This development is particularly relevant for manufacturers using Nickel Alloys.
