Copper Production Soars 16% YoY, Driven by Yauricocha Mine Development
Sierra Metals exceeded its 2024 production targets with a 16% year-over-year increase in copper production, reaching 11 million pounds in Q3. This impressive result stems from successful development at the Yauricocha mine in Peru. The company saw a 23% increase in copper production from Yauricocha compared to the previous year.
Boost in Copper Production from Yauricocha Mine
The new mining zones at Yauricocha contributed significantly to the surge. Copper production in these zones rose by 97% from the previous quarter, totaling 4.7 million pounds. Yauricocha is expected to remain a key growth driver for Sierra Metals throughout the remainder of 2024.
Continued Contribution from Bolivar Mine
Sierra’s Bolivar mine in Mexico also played a pivotal role in copper production. Bolivar produced 6.3 million pounds in Q3, an 11% increase from the previous year and a 3% rise compared to Q2 2024. Together with Yauricocha’s new zones, Bolivar helped Sierra Metals exceed its initial production projections.
Zinc Output Stable, Lead Production Declines
Copper production grew impressively, but Sierra’s zinc output remained stable at 11.2 million pounds in Q3, with only a slight 1% decrease from Q2 2024. Lead production faced significant challenges, dropping 38% year-over-year and 17% from Q2, totaling only 2.5 million pounds. Despite these setbacks in lead, Sierra Metals continues to focus on copper and zinc as key growth areas.
Positive Outlook for Sierra Metals in 2024
Sierra Metals remains optimistic about exceeding its 2024 production targets. With copper production as a primary driver, Sierra is well-positioned to increase output and improve efficiencies. The strong performance at both Yauricocha and Bolivar mines will fuel further growth in the coming months.
