TGS, a global leader in energy data and intelligence, has announced the launch of its Krishna-Godavari (KG) Basin Mega 3D reprocessing project. This initiative aims to enhance the value of legacy seismic data using advanced processing techniques, supporting ongoing exploration and licensing efforts in one of India’s most prolific hydrocarbon regions.
Enhancing Exploration with Cutting-Edge Seismic Technologies
The KG Basin Mega 3D project spans 16,900 square kilometers of legacy 3D surveys and will leverage advanced seismic reprocessing methods, including Pre-Stack Time Migration (PSTM), Pre-Stack Depth Migration (PSDM), and Full Waveform Inversion (FWI). These state-of-the-art techniques will deliver high-resolution imaging that enables detailed exploration of Tertiary stratigraphic plays and deeper synrift prospects in the basin.
Set to begin in January 2025, the project is expected to produce final seismic data by April 2026, with fast-track data available in Q2 2025. The project will also cover 10,900 square kilometers of open acreage across the upcoming OALP-10 bid round blocks, providing enhanced clarity and confidence for exploration and production companies as they evaluate potential opportunities.
Advancing Exploration Capabilities in India’s KG Basin
David Hajovsky, Executive Vice President of Multi-Client at TGS, emphasized the company’s commitment to advancing exploration capabilities in India. He stated, “By enhancing critical datasets with the latest seismic reprocessing technologies, we can provide new opportunities and support our clients in maximizing the potential of this prolific basin.”
TGS has a strong track record of successful projects, including the East Coast India 2D-cubed program, and continues to address the evolving needs of the global energy industry. The Krishna-Godavari Basin Mega 3D project is a testament to TGS’s ongoing dedication to innovation and providing advanced solutions for exploration in key regions worldwide.
