Redwave and Tomra Recycling have formed a strategic partnership aimed at transforming the zorba metal sorting industry. Starting from November 1, the collaboration integrates Redwave’s X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and Tomra’s X-ray transmission (XRT) technologies. This alliance will provide recyclers with a more efficient and sustainable solution for recovering high-quality end fractions from shredded metal.

Enhancing Zorba Sorting with Cutting-Edge Technologies

The partnership brings together two innovative technologies to improve the sorting of zorba, which consists of mixed shredded metals. Redwave’s XRF technology identifies metals based on their chemical composition, while Tomra’s XRT system separates them based on atomic density. The combination of these technologies enables recyclers to achieve greater precision in sorting and efficiently produce high-quality mono-metal products such as copper, zinc, and brass.

By sourcing both XRF and XRT technologies from a single supplier, sorting plant operators can streamline their operations, making the process faster and more efficient.

Supporting Sustainability and Circular Economy Goals

The two companies share a commitment to advancing the circular economy and achieving net-zero emissions. Their collaboration focuses on improving metal recovery, reducing material waste, and increasing the quality of recycled metals. This partnership is designed to help industries like automotive and electronics meet their sustainability targets while optimizing production processes.

Both Redwave and Tomra believe that their combined solution will lead to better metal recovery rates, ultimately promoting environmental responsibility within the recycling sector.

Independent Operations with Combined Expertise

Although Redwave and Tomra will continue to operate independently, their partnership enables them to leverage their complementary strengths. Tomra’s XRT technology is available in North America through its exclusive partner, Wendt Corp., while Redwave’s globally recognized XRF technology provides high precision for sorting mixed heavy metals.

Both companies remain committed to providing after-sales support, ensuring that recyclers can maintain optimal efficiency in their operations.
