Aerotech, a leader in motion control systems, will showcase its surface measurement solutions at the Control International Trade Fair in Stuttgart, Germany, from May 6-9, 2025. The company will present its Surface Measurement Motion Platform (SMP) and Automation1 motion control platform.

High-Precision Surface Measurement with SMP

Aerotech’s Surface Measurement Motion Platform (SMP) is ideal for industries like aerospace, medical technology, and semiconductor production. It provides flexible 2D and 3D contouring, reducing processing time by up to 40%. The SMP uses up to 60% less floor space than traditional systems. It offers fast, non-destructive quality assurance, crucial for laser processing and additive manufacturing.

Simon Smith, European Director at Aerotech, said, “High-precision measurements of spherical, aspherical, and cylindrical shapes in the nanometre range are critical for component quality.”

Automation1 Motion Control Platform Enhancements

Aerotech will also present version 2.10 of its Automation1 motion control platform. This release includes features like conditional plotting, improved access control, and updated galvo calibration. The platform is highly customizable, allowing machine builders to create tailored user interfaces with the MachineApps HMI tool. This flexibility streamlines integration and reduces development time.

Brett Heintz, Controls Product Management Group Leader at Aerotech, said, “Automation1’s customizability allows machine builders to achieve faster integration.”

Peak Metrology: Non-Contact 3D Surface Measurement

Aerotech’s subsidiary, Peak Metrology, will feature its new non-contact 3D surface measurement system. Developed in collaboration with Keyence, the system uses laser line scanning and precision motion control. It’s designed for industries needing micrometre-level accuracy, such as semiconductor production and aerospace. The system is ideal for measuring larger or more complex parts, where traditional systems fall short.

RJ Hardt, President of Peak Metrology, stated, “Our new system solves the problem of measuring larger parts, surpassing the limitations of current digital microscopes.”

Conclusion

Aerotech’s solutions at Control 2025 showcase the company’s commitment to advancing surface measurement and motion control technology. Whether through the SMP, the Automation1 platform, or Peak Metrology’s 3D systems, Aerotech continues to lead innovation in aerospace, medical technology, and semiconductor manufacturing. As a result, the company is not only setting new standards for precision and efficiency but also redefining industry benchmarks in these critical sectors.
