Airbus Delivers 766 Jets in 2024, Falling Short of Target Amid Supply Chain Challenges

Airbus

Airbus has delivered 766 aircraft in 2024. This falls slightly short of their 770 target. Supply chain disruptions caused the shortfall. CEO Christian Scherer remains optimistic. He considers the year a success.

Deliveries Rise, Yet Remain Below Peak

Deliveries increased from 735 jets in 2023. However, this is below the 863 deliveries in 2019. Airbus achieved key milestones in 2024. They delivered 123 jets in December alone. Scherer acknowledged the challenges of 2024. Labor shortages and supply chain issues persisted.

Challenges and Outlook for Airbus

Airbus initially aimed for 800 deliveries. Production setbacks led to a revised target. Reaching the 75 A320 aircraft per month production goal is delayed. This target is now set for 2027 instead of 2026. Airbus remains optimistic about reaching this target.

The company recorded 826 net orders in 2024. Their backlog is now 8,658 jets. Supply chain constraints persist. Engine production and aerostructural parts are key issues. Potential new tariffs under incoming U.S. president Donald Trump pose challenges. Airbus maintains its lead in global deliveries. They have held this lead since 2019. This followed the grounding of Boeing’s 737 Max.
