EU Finalises Tariff Countermeasures Against US

U.S tariffs

The EU prepares countermeasures against U.S. import tariffs. Washington set these at 20% from April 9, in addition to existing rates. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the bloc finalizes a first package. They prepare further countermeasures. They monitor indirect effects of U.S. tariffs. “We cannot absorb global overcapacity nor will we accept dumping on our market,” von der Leyen said. Many Europeans “feel let down by our oldest ally.”

U.S. President Donald Trump decreed sweeping tariff measures on April 2. All foreign imports face a minimum 10% tax. However, many energy and mineral products receive exemptions. This list includes non-ferrous metals, oil products, and coal. Specifically, the April 2 tariffs do not apply to steel, aluminum, cars, trucks, or auto parts. These already face separate tariffs.
