Metallus has secured a major five-year agreement with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). The Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity contract has a maximum ceiling of $995 million. This award reinforces the company’s position as a key domestic supplier. It supports U.S. military readiness and advanced munitions manufacturing.
DLA Contract Structure and Initial Delivery Order
The agreement establishes a five-year ordering window. The DLA can procure high-performance bar-based steel products through individual delivery orders. The $995 million ceiling represents a maximum potential value, not a guaranteed purchase commitment. However, the agreement began immediately with an initial delivery order of $125 million on September 29.
Delivery orders under the contract can take up to 24 months to fulfill. The initial $125 million order equals just over 10% of Metallus’ annual sales. This highlights the growing financial scale of the company’s defense business.
Expanding Role in Munitions and Advanced Weaponry
Metallus operates primary production facilities in Canton, Ohio. It manufactures specialized alloy steel bars, special bar quality (SBQ) steels, and seamless mechanical tubing. These materials serve critical defense applications. They are used in artillery shells, mortar rounds, missile casings, and gun barrels.
The new award builds on prior defense investments. In early 2024, Metallus secured a $100 million U.S. Army agreement to expand artillery material capacity. Geopolitical tensions are now driving strong demand for domestic supply chain security. As a result, Metallus is modernizing its plants to expand its long-standing support for U.S. armed forces.

SuperMetalPrice Commentary:
This massive framework agreement underscores the deepening integration between domestic specialty steel producers and U.S. defense agencies. While the ceiling value is not a guaranteed purchase commitment, the initial $125 million delivery order provides immediate revenue visibility and validates Metallus’ strategic shift toward high-margin defense applications.
