Germany-based WeSort.AI has secured €10 million in funding to scale its advanced recycling technology. Leading investors include Infinity Recycling and Green Generation Fund. The funding round also gained support from SPRIND and the BayStartUP.

AI Technology Targets Critical Raw Materials Recovery Challenges

WeSort.AI uses artificial intelligence, X-ray systems, and advanced imaging to detect hidden materials. The system identifies misplaced batteries and electronic waste in mixed recycling streams. Consequently, it improves safety and increases recovery rates.

The company already deploys its systems at major operators like Korn Recycling and PreZero. These installations reduce fire risks and enhance material recovery efficiency.

 

EU Policy Drives Demand for Critical Raw Materials Recovery

The EU Critical Raw Materials Act sets ambitious targets for reducing import dependence. Currently, Europe relies heavily on external sources for key materials. These include rare earth elements from China, lithium from Chile, and cobalt from Africa.

WeSort.AI addresses this challenge by unlocking “urban mining” opportunities. It recovers valuable materials from waste that previously went unused. Therefore, it supports both sustainability and supply chain resilience.
