Cognor Advances Steel Production with New Siemianowice Śląskie Facility
Cognor Group has started rolling mill production at its new steel plant in Siemianowice Śląskie, Poland. This PLN 830 million investment began in 2018. The project involved demolishing 80% of the old Huty Laura site to build a modern, automated facility. The plant produces profiles and bars for construction, energy, automotive, and defense sectors. It has an annual capacity of about 450,000 tons. The facility uses advanced robotics and artificial intelligence to boost efficiency. The workforce reduced to roughly 120 employees from over 350 at similar plants.
Cognor’s Focus on Automation and Energy Efficiency in Steel Production
The Siemianowice Śląskie plant features cutting-edge automation, including one of the most advanced automated warehouses in the industry. Cognor plans to install an 8 MW solar power system. This system will supply up to 70% of the plant’s electricity needs. Cognor President Przemysław Sztuczkowski said these innovations will help the company face tough market conditions. Despite falling steel demand, Cognor aims to increase competitiveness through automation and a wider product range.
