MPIF Releases 2025 Edition of Standard Test Methods for Powder Metallurgy and Additive Manufacturing

MPIF

The Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) has now published its much-anticipated 2025 edition of “Standard Test Methods.” This edition serves as a vital resource for industries that work with metal powders, Powder Metallurgy (PM), Metal Injection Molding (MIM), and Metal Additive Manufacturing (AM). Furthermore, the comprehensive new volume includes 52 standards, which cover a wide range of testing procedures from terminology and equipment to advanced manufacturing techniques in powder-based technologies.

Key Updates and Revisions Enhance Testing Accuracy

Specifically, this latest edition provides several key updates to keep pace with evolving industry needs. In addition to revised standards and updated figures, the volume introduces four new test methods that address modern challenges in metal powder processing and additive manufacturing. These include:

  • Standard 76: Determination of Ejection Stresses for Uniaxially Compacted PM Test Specimens.
  • Standard 77: Test Method for Preparing and Evaluating Un-notched Charpy Impact Energy Specimens of Materials Produced by Sinter-Based Metal AM Technologies.
  • Standard 78: Test Method for Preparing and Evaluating V-Notched Charpy Impact Energy Specimens of Materials Produced by Fusion-Based Metal AM Technologies.
  • Standard 79: Test Method for Preparation of AC and DC Soft-Magnetic PM Test Specimens.

Indeed, these new standards enhance test reliability and accuracy. As a result, they support industries that increasingly rely on advanced materials and manufacturing processes.

Industry Practices and Compliance Impacted by New Standards

Consequently, the 2025 edition makes previous versions obsolete. Therefore, companies must adopt the latest protocols to ensure quality assurance. Moreover, manufacturing processes now meet updated standards. As a result, companies integrate revised standards into their quality management practices. This ensures compliance with technological advancements.

Availability and Member Discounts Offered

The 2025 edition is available for purchase on the MPIF website. Importantly, federation members receive discounts. Professionals in metal powder industries, AM, and materials testing find this volume indispensable. Consequently, it ensures industry leaders stay ahead in compliance, innovation, and efficiency. SuperMetalPrice observes that these updated standards will directly impact the quality control processes within the metals powder industry, therefore impacting the quality of the metals being used in various manufacturing processes.
