Startup Hades Secures Storkwitz Licence to Place Germany on the Rare Earth Map

German startup Hades obtained an exploration licence for the Storkwitz rare earth project in northern Saxony from the Saxon Mining Authority. This authorization grants the Munich-based company rights to survey a 28.4-square-kilometre area near Delitzsch. This marks a major milestone for Europe’s largest economy in securing domestic critical mineral supplies.


Tapping Domestic Critical Mineral Potential

Historical geological surveys indicate the Storkwitz deposit hosts about 38,000 tonnes of rare earth oxides and 8,000 tonnes of niobium pentoxide. Hades has not yet established an officially verified resource under standard reporting frameworks. Chief executive Max Werner emphasized that the project builds a concrete foundation for local critical raw material development. It also directly supports the European Union’s Critical Raw Materials Act.


Innovative Extraction and Venture Financing

To fast-track project evaluation while minimizing environmental disturbance, Hades plans to deploy proprietary Cerberus laser drilling technology. This technology reportedly reduces drilling expenses by over half compared to conventional techniques. Furthermore, the company aims to assess in-situ recovery methods. Having successfully raised 20 million euros across two venture funding rounds, the startup intends to build a vertically integrated European supply chain for permanent magnet raw materials used in electric vehicles and wind turbines.
