Tata Power has partnered with the Assam Government to develop up to 5,000 MW of renewable energy in the state. This ambitious project, which includes solar, wind, hydro, and energy storage, will require an investment of INR 300 billion ($3.42 billion). The agreement will help accelerate Assam’s energy transition and contribute to India’s renewable energy goals.

MoU Signed to Strengthen Assam’s Clean Energy Infrastructure

At the Advantage Assam 2.0 event, Tata Power signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Assam Government. Dr. Krishna Kumar Dwivedi, Principal Secretary (Power), Government of Assam, and Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & Managing Director of Tata Power, signed the agreement in the presence of Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The partnership will see the government allocate around 20,000 acres of land for renewable energy projects. The state will also support infrastructure development, enabling seamless transmission connectivity. Furthermore, the collaboration will promote the establishment of Renewable Energy Parks, benefiting local industries, including tea plantations.

Comprehensive Support to Accelerate Renewable Energy Growth

To ensure successful project implementation, the Assam Government has committed to offering various forms of support. It will provide single-window clearances for approvals and financial incentives. In addition, the government will introduce skill development programs to create a capable workforce for executing the projects.

Assam has a vast renewable energy potential of 14,487 MW, with solar energy playing a major role. The state aims to install 500 MW of solar capacity by 2027, and this collaboration aligns with that vision.

Tata Power’s Role in Assam’s Growing Clean Energy Market

Tata Power has already made substantial contributions to Assam’s clean energy market. The company has established 20 MW of solar rooftop capacity and installed over 300 home EV chargers along with 20 public EV charging stations.

Dr. Praveer Sinha, Tata Power’s CEO, emphasized the project’s significance: “Our collaboration with the Assam Government is crucial in strengthening the state’s energy security and supporting economic growth. With strong policy backing and infrastructure development, we aim to meet India’s ambitious renewable energy targets.”

This partnership aligns with India’s goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030. Tata Power’s involvement further reflects its dedication to sustainable energy and its role in advancing India’s clean energy transition.
