University of Wisconsin-Madison Uses Civan’s Dynamic Beam Lasers for Additive Manufacturing Research

University of Wisconsin-Madison, Civan’s Dynamic Beam Lasers

The University of Wisconsin-Madison is pioneering advancements in Additive Manufacturing with the integration of Civan Lasers’ Dynamic Beam Lasers (DBL) into their research. Professor Lianyi Chen, from the university’s Mechanical Engineering department, is the first researcher to incorporate this innovative technology into Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB).

Advancing PBF-LB with Dynamic Beam Lasers

Civan’s Dynamic Beam Lasers (DBL) are changing the Powder Bed Fusion Laser Beam (PBF-LB) process. These lasers create arbitrary beam shapes. This offers significant advantages. Professor Chen’s research aims to optimize Additive Manufacturing. He will use this unique capability.

The DBL will integrate into a custom-built system. This system includes advanced sensors and closed-loop control. Real-time process parameter adjustments will be possible. This minimizes defects. It also pushes the boundaries of PBF-LB. SuperMetalPrice sees this technology as a major advancement.

Ami Spira, General Manager of Civan Lasers, is excited. The technology expands beyond welding. He praised Professor Chen’s innovative approach. This approach will set new standards. It will impact the entire LPBF community.
