Ørsted, the Danish energy leader, has partnered with Nuveen Infrastructure to launch the Gode Wind 3 Offshore Wind Farm. Located in the German North Sea, this 253MW wind farm will supply renewable energy to about 250,000 homes. This marks a significant step in Germany’s transition to green energy.

After completing offshore construction and testing, the wind farm reached its full commissioning phase in February 2025. Gode Wind 3 is now Ørsted’s fifth operational offshore wind facility in Germany, emphasizing its commitment to renewable energy.

Key Features of Gode Wind 3

Gode Wind 3 features 23 Siemens Gamesa turbines. Each turbine has an 11MW capacity and a rotor diameter of 200 meters. These turbines are the largest operational turbines in German waters. They can produce up to 40% more energy annually than older models, improving efficiency significantly.

Electricity from the turbines flows through an offshore substation and a converter station operated by TenneT. After that, the energy enters Lower Saxony’s extra-high voltage grid, further distributing clean power.

Ørsted’s Expansion and Future Growth

The successful launch of Gode Wind 3 sets the stage for Ørsted’s future growth in offshore wind energy. The company is preparing for the Borkum Riffgrund 3 Offshore Wind Farm, which will add 913MW to Germany’s renewable energy capacity by 2026.

Currently, Ørsted holds nearly 20% of Germany’s offshore wind capacity. The company provides renewable energy to approximately 1.6 million homes. As offshore wind energy continues to grow, Ørsted and its partners are set to play a larger role in Germany’s renewable energy transition.

Nuveen Infrastructure holds a 50% stake in Gode Wind 3, enhancing its involvement in the global push for sustainable energy. This partnership highlights Ørsted’s leadership in renewable energy production and international infrastructure investment.

Conclusion

Ørsted’s Gode Wind 3 Offshore Wind Farm is a vital contribution to Germany’s renewable energy landscape. With advanced Siemens Gamesa turbines and efficient transmission systems, it supports Germany’s green energy goals. Ørsted’s ongoing expansion in offshore wind energy positions the company as a key player in the global transition to renewable power.
