US Boosts Domestic Niobium Production with $26.4 Million Investment

The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) is investing $26.4 million to strengthen domestic niobium production. This move aims to reduce the country’s reliance on Brazilian imports and ensure a secure supply for aerospace and defense applications.

GAM Project in Pennsylvania Aims to Boost Niobium Output

The DoD awarded the grant to Global Advanced Metals (GAM), which will use the funds to enhance high-purity niobium oxide production at its Pennsylvania facility. The project is expected to create a more resilient domestic niobium production supply chain and support cost-efficient niobium materials.

Niobium’s Strategic Role in US Defense Sector

Niobium is valued for its lightweight, high-strength properties, which are crucial in aerospace components, especially in hypersonic weapons. As competition with China intensifies, this investment reflects the U.S. strategy to secure critical mineral supply chains vital to national security.
