Worley’s Role in the Alaska LNG Pipeline Project

Worley has secured a vital engineering contract to support the Alaska LNG Pipeline project. The project aims to deliver a 1,300km natural gas pipeline from the North Slope to near Anchorage. Worley will provide detailed design and cost estimates to assist Glenfarne Alaska LNG with the forthcoming financial investment decision (FID) expected by late 2025. The pipeline will help supply Alaska’s domestic needs while supporting a 20 million tonnes per annum LNG export facility.

The infrastructure includes not only the pipeline but also a gas treatment plant and LNG import/export terminals. Worley’s expertise builds on existing engineering work, reinforcing its commitment to Alaska, where it has over 60 years of experience. The company will also lead engineering efforts for the Cook Inlet Gateway LNG import terminal and serve as a project delivery advisor for Glenfarne across the entire Alaska LNG portfolio.

 

Engineering Challenges and Strategic Impact of the Alaska LNG Pipeline Project

The Alaska LNG Pipeline project features a 42-inch diameter pipeline operating at 2,075 psig. The route includes an offshore crossing at Cook Inlet and multiple compressor stations to ensure steady natural gas flow. Interconnection points along the pipeline will provide in-state gas distribution, enhancing energy security for residential and industrial users.

The pipeline will transport an average of 3.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas daily, mainly from Prudhoe Bay fields. This integrated natural gas infrastructure will facilitate exports through the Nikiski LNG facility and encourage additional oil and gas exploration in Alaska. Following agreements between Glenfarne Alaska LNG and the Alaska Gasline Development Corporation (AGDC), Glenfarne will hold majority ownership and lead development through operations, while AGDC and the State of Alaska retain significant equity stakes.
